About
A small cyprinid of up to about 12 cm that schools near the bottom of ponds and irrigation channels. A broad dark stripe runs along the brownish-silver flank, and it carries one pair of fairly long barbels — the barbels alone separate it from the topmouth gudgeon, which has none. It is stockier than its close relative the honmoroko, and feeds mainly on bottom-dwelling animals.
