What Tsurizukan is
Tsurizukan is a bilingual field guide to fishing in Japan: what you can catch now, where you are, with the gear you have. The guide itself is a smartphone app, and this site publishes the same material. Both are generated from one set of data, so they cannot disagree.
Where the data comes from
The base fish data (Japanese and scientific names, family, English name, distribution, description) is carried over from Sakana Quiz, an earlier app by the same author. The fishing material — seasons, methods, rigs, hazards — is written for this project. Photographs are licensed material from Wikimedia Commons and elsewhere, credited on each species page.
Review status
Every detailed record has received an internal self-review, but not review by an ichthyologist or fishing professional. Legal and hazard notes are checked against public primary sources from the Ministry of Health, Fisheries Agency, Ministry of the Environment and prefectures, and remain marked needsReview.
Operator
Run by an independent developer. Full operator details are being prepared.
